From trash find to treasure #ididthat

Over the years, painting furniture has become familiar and it is a favorite hobby

The first piece of furniture I painted was a chest of drawers, when my husband and I moved into our first rental apartment ten years ago.

Over the years, there have been many kinds of projects, and when it comes to the right kind of furniture, your hands are itching to realize yourself. Nowadays, all the furniture in the single-family house has been painted/tuned as much as possible, and there are few projects anymore.

We just had a new baby in our family and it was time for our 2.5-year-old daughter to move to a junior bed in order to free up a crib. However, the bed got tired and I wasn't tempted to get a new one.

My husband picked up an Ikea Sundvik bed that had just been taken out of use from a local junkyard group. It didn't take long when the bed was fetched and I started looking at Frechic's goals.

Choice of paint and shade

I have painted with Frechic paints before.

The pepper border of our daughter's room is painted with Frenchic wall paint in the shade Last dance, and the doors of the Ikea Kallax shelf are painted with Trim Paint in the shade Last dance.

The shade of the future bed should match these as well with forest green wallpaper.

I found the shade at the same time as I was browsing shades in Frenchic's online store.

Lazy Range series Nougat, pink beige .

A gentle and calming tone for a little girl's room.

Best of all, Frenchic's paints are a safe choice for children's rooms, because all paints are EN71:3 certified, so you can use them to paint children's furniture or even toys without worry.

The paint from the Lazy Range series was a new acquaintance for me, I was also interested in these points:

  • Self Leveling - Due to the feature, the paint surface spreads as if by itself and leaves no brush marks.
  • Self Priming - No primer required.
  • Self Sealing - Because of this feature, the painted surface no longer needs to be protected because the surface becomes durable and beautiful as it is.

From inch to action

I read on the side of the paint can that the paint needs at least 2 layers to achieve a durable finish and a 250ml can would be enough for about 4m2.

The bed was conveniently in parts, so there was no need to disassemble it.

I roughened the old paint surface of the bed with a Mirka sanding pad and for the most difficult places an M3 sanding sponge.

There were not many dents in the bed, so a small roughening of the paint surface was enough.

I wiped off the sanding dust and let it dry a little more before starting the painting.

I had prepared for the painting with an oval S-sized Frenchic brush and roller.

In the end, the roller was not needed at all because I got a good and even mark with the brush.

Two layers of paint was enough for the bed, but next time I would reserve a little more paint because the porous wood can absorb more paint and you shouldn't skimp on paint if you want to achieve a durable paint surface.

Our daughter would not have been able to wait for the paint to dry, but a good drying time also affects the durability of the paint surface.

After the drying time, the bed is piled up and in the daughter's room to the parade ground.

Oh, the squeals of joy that a new bed brings. It was a rewarding moment!

By following these instructions, you will achieve a good painting result.

Thanks to Frenchic for the cooperation , which made it possible to make a beautiful bed for my daughter.

These paints are close to my heart and it has been nice to work with them.

So far, I don't know the next project, but you never know if the next project suddenly pops up in front of me and my hands start itching for it.
