Painting the kitchen backsplash transforms the feel of the entire kitchen without replacing the cabinets or tiles. You can also give a dry toilet room’s tiled wall a fresh look with a shade that suits your décor.
Which paint is suitable for painting tiles?
Frenchic range’s Al Fresco and Wall Paint shades are suitable for painting ceramic wall tiles in appropriate indoor spaces. Al Fresco leaves a matte finish, while Wall Paint leaves an ultra-matte finish. You can choose based on your preferred shade, sheen, and the area to be painted.
Always check that the tile surface and intended use are suitable before painting. Not all tile materials and surface treatments behave the same way.
Instructions for painting tiles
Clean the tiles and grout thoroughly. Grease, limescale, soap residue, and silicone can prevent the paint from adhering. Rinse off any cleaning product residue and let the surface dry completely. Roughen the surface according to the painting instructions and remove the sanding dust.
Al Fresco and Wall Paint do not usually require a separate primer on a suitable tile surface. However, you must still do the necessary preparation. Paint will not adhere to silicone grout either.
Can you paint bathroom tiles or tiled floors?
These paint ranges are not recommended for shower areas, bathtubs, sinks, or other surfaces that are continuously wet or exposed to standing water. Painting tiled floors is also not recommended because of the wear they are subject to.
In bathrooms, suitability must be assessed separately based on the surface to be painted and its exposure to water. Painting tiles changes the appearance of the surface, but does not repair moisture damage or replace waterproofing.
When can a painted tile surface be used and cleaned?
Follow the drying instructions for your chosen paint and protect the fresh surface from splashes and abrasion. Touch-dry paint has not yet reached its full durability: under normal conditions, curing takes about 2–3 weeks.
Cleaning: Clean the cured paint surface with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive tools and strong cleaning products.
What color should you paint the kitchen backsplash?
Compare the shade with your kitchen cabinet doors, countertop, and floor. A warm light shade softens the overall look, green adds color alongside wooden surfaces, and a dark shade highlights light-colored cabinets. Check the color sample under the countertop lights too, as lighting affects how the color appears.
