SUPPLIES FOR PAINTING KITCHEN CABINETS I Frenchic Paint Finland

Supplies for painting kitchen cabinets

Save this list of supplies you’ll need when you start painting your kitchen cabinets.

The instructions for achieving a great result with Frenchic paints are ultimately very simple:

  1. Wash and clean the surface thoroughly, then let it dry.
  2. Sand the entire surface and wipe away the sanding dust.
  3. Apply at least two coats to a clean, dry surface, using thoroughly mixed paint.
  4. Allow to dry according to the instructions.

Supplies in a short list

  • Brushes and roller
  • masking tape
  • sanding supplies
  • effective cleaner
  • paint

Paint

Paint coverage depends on many factors, but even a large kitchen often only needs 2 - 3 x 750ml, regardless of the Frenchic range. You can find the coverage on the side of the tin and on the online store page for each shade.

If you’re painting a dark surface white, or vice versa, you may need more paint than usual because of the significant colour difference. If so, apply one coat in a shade of grey first.

Factors affecting paint coverage include thorough mixing, allowing each coat to dry for the recommended time, the difference between the existing surface and the chosen colour, and the painting tools and technique.

Read about whether you need a primer.

We recommend doing a test patch so you can get used to the paint and tools before starting a larger project. The small 250 ml can is intended for testing the paint and choosing a colour.

Also consider whether you want to paint the inside of the kitchen cabinet doors and drawers, the trim or the end panels. You’ll need more paint if you decide to paint the inside of the cabinets or spray-paint them.

You can choose a shade for painting kitchen cabinets from the Trim Paint, Al Fresco or Lazy Range collections. Click here to go straight to the shades.

Brushes, masking tape and effective cleaner

You can paint with a brush or roller - often, it’s worth getting both.

You’ll also need an effective degreasing cleaner, such as Sugar Soap, and a sanding sponge if you’re roughening the surface by hand.

Also get some quality masking tape if your cabinets have glass doors or silicone edges, or if you want to mask edges, hinges or trim.
