Why an adult's home doesn't have to be beige

Being an adult doesn't mean having a beige home. When you know which colors make you feel good and dare to use them, that's the most grown-up decorating choice of all.
Beige isn't the only "grown-up" option
For some reason, we've come to believe that an adult's home should be neutral, understated, and preferably as beige as possible.
As if a peaceful interior had to be colorless.
In reality, it's an impression, not a fact. An adult's home can also be deep green, soft pink, warm terracotta, or stylish dark blue. A peaceful atmosphere comes from the overall look, not from everything being the same shade of gray and beige.
Colors and self-awareness
Being an adult can also mean knowing which colors make you feel good and trusting that.
Maybe you're looking to bring warmth and softness into your home. In that case, a warm, earthy shade or soft green may feel more like you than a white wall.
Colors are not just for the eyes, but also for the mind
Colors can:
- calm
- energize
- add coziness
- express your personality
Once you recognize which feeling matters most to you at home, it's easier to choose colors.
What is it about color that really scares us?
Many customers say they're afraid of the following:
- What if I get tired of the color?
- What if there's too much color?
- What if my guests don't like my colors?
The truth is, your home is for you, not for other people's opinions. Paint is a wonderful decorating tool because it lets you transform a space quickly and affordably, without any special tools or skills. It's easier and cheaper to repaint a wall or cupboard than to replace kitchen cabinets, sofas, and armchairs. Easier, and absolutely okay.
A good rule of thumb is to start with one item:
-
Paint a chest of drawers or display cabinet in a bold shade
-
Try an accent wall instead of repainting the whole room at once
-
Test the color on a loose item, such as a tray or small table

Frenchic and a colorful yet peaceful home
The Frenchic color range includes both soft, muted shades and bolder colors. You can use them to create a home that feels like a good friend: safe but not boring.
You could start like this:
- Choose one "safe shade," such as warm gray-green Shush
- Add one more cheerful accent color, such as deep blue, terracotta, or forest green
- Repeat shades in small painted details in different rooms
Save this article and come back to it the next time you catch yourself thinking, "An adult's home is probably beige." It doesn't have to be, trust me!
