DO YOU WANT TO ADD ATMOSPHERE?

  • 4 my reading time

Do you want more atmosphere, colorful and bold, but your home is light and neutral, even a bit boring?

These painting tips are for you.

Pick up these interior and painting tips used by professionals and do it even better yourself!

If you have always wanted to add atmosphere and use more colors but aren’t sure how, here are easy tips to help you create a completely new space by doing it yourself.

You can apply these tips in both small and larger spaces.

Choose a boldly dark shade even for smaller spaces.

Using colors does not make a space feel smaller – on the contrary – a boutique hotel-style atmosphere is created by using bold colors.

Modern and minimalist interiors also handle strong colors well.

Forget single accent walls, boldly paint at least two or three walls in the same shade. A single colored wall always feels a bit disconnected if the other surfaces are white.

Now ceilings, moldings, and doors are also painted with colors.

You can do so much with paint!

With one Frenchic wall paint can, you can paint up to 36m2.

Using color together with slats

Wood surfaces, wooden moldings, and beams are back in interior design. If you want to use colors but more subtly, choose a shade and use it interestingly as a base for the slats...

Rough wooden surfaces go well with all natural shades such as blue, green, brown, and black.
Consider shades like terracotta, browns, blues, and even black.

Also think about how you can add interesting texture to the color with accent slats or paneling.

📌Tip! Create a clean wood slat effect over a bold colored surface, allowing the chosen shade to show through the slats.

Make a slatted wall on just one wall, but paint all the other walls in the same shade. This way, the result is stunning, atmospheric, and cohesive.

📌Tip! You can easily treat light wooden slats to a beautiful brown with Frenchic waxes. Plus, they dry quickly, are non-toxic, easy to use, and economical.Learn more about using waxes.

A cozy, nest-like atmosphere suits spaces where an intimate and relaxing vibe is desired, such as bedrooms and living rooms.

📌Tip! Turn a small bathroom into a stunning jewel with bold colors from floor to ceiling.

Textured surfaces in interior design

What about texture? It’s back in interiors more than ever: handmade surfaces, various textured finishes, rough concrete and broken and hammered surfaces, stone surfaces, linen, cork, rattan... Add even more texture with thick curtains, using plush velvet and wool in the curtains.

Make layers of several blankets on the sofa, chaise lounge, armchair, and bed, and use super thick-pile rugs!

Finally, lighting completes your beautiful interior and brings out the character of the shades.

Yes - you want dark and light areas in your home, illuminated spots as well as some dim corners. You don’t want bright general lighting on the ceiling - that’s only for cleaning days!
What if you forgot the expensive ceiling light - it’s not necessary in every room.

📌 Tip: DIY-style decorators are now making large, textured pendant lights themselves from paper, cardboard, or various clays.

Remember to light your green plants as well.

📌Tip! Raise your green plants higher, make large groups of them, and light the plants from below towards the wall to create stunning shadows on the wall.

Also get affordable cordless lights that are easy to move. Prefer several small lights to get interesting, indirect lighting in different parts of the room, at different heights.

You want a warm tone to create coziness and a dimmer for every light fixture.

Finally, seal the atmosphere with a fireplace or other fire source - if you don’t have one, use lanterns, candles, or even LED candles.

With lighting, you get much more out of your beautifully colored walls and furniture!

Add two wall lights to your new slat accent wall. Choose interesting and unique lights, and you won’t need much else.

📌 Tip! You can paint old lampshades with Frenchic paints to match your new wall color. You can also paint the inside of the lampshade: Remember metallic shades as well.

If your walls are already painted in a beautiful shade or have texture or art - lighting is the cherry on top - Wonderful!

Whether your interior style is rich or modern and minimalist, the use of colors together with slats and lighting suits both styles to completely renew the atmosphere of the space.

Hopefully, you got some new ideas for refreshing your home from this!
