What is SALTWASH®?
Saltwash® is a powder added to primer that creates a uniquely worn-looking surface on any substrate.
Saltwash® was created to imitate authentic, time-worn paint surfaces that the founders of Saltwash® had seen on the porches and furniture of seaside cottages when they lived on the coast.
They wanted to create a product that can replicate a layered, weathered look created by sun and salt air, but that is also quick and easy to use.
WHAT MAKES SALTWASH® THE SUPERIOR TEXTURE PASTE POWDER?
Saltwash® contains genuine sea salt and organic compounds.
It is a proven effective product that gives a layered, weathered, sun-kissed, sea-salty finish to any surface. It is the market's first and original texture product.
DOES THE SURFACE NEED TO BE PRIMED, CLEANED, OR SANDED BEFORE USING SALTWASH®?
Saltwash®'s special feature is that you don't need to clean or prime the surface before use. Its chemical composition, including sea salt, gives Saltwash® incredible adhesion to any surface without priming, cleaning, or sanding.
WHAT TYPES OF SURFACES CAN SALTWASH® BE USED ON?
Saltwash® adheres to any surface regardless of wood, laminate, glass, fabric, plastic, and many other surfaces, and it requires no preparation.
WHAT CAN I COAT WITH SALTWASH®?
You can create art on canvas bases and produce stunning textured surfaces on canvas.
You can create antique-looking pots, frames, and furniture - even entire walls or paneling.
CAN SALTWASH® BE MIXED INTO ANY PAINT?
Yes. Saltwash® can be mixed into any paint type, such as latex, oil, acrylic, interior, exterior, chalk, milk, mineral paints, or various clay paints.
HOW MUCH SALTWASH® SHOULD BE MIXED INTO SPECIALTY PAINTS, SUCH AS CHALK OR MILK PAINTS?
When using specialty paints like chalk or milk paint or Frenchic paints, you don't need to mix in as much Saltwash® as you would with, for example, latex paints.
WHAT IS THE DRYING TIME?
Saltwash® contains real, genuine sea salt, which speeds up the drying process. Indoors, the drying time is about 1.5-2 hours per 1m2 area. Outdoors in sunny/dry conditions, the drying time is about 20-30 minutes per 1m2 area. Note: If Saltwash® is applied very thickly in some area, the drying time may be longer at that spot.
DOES A USED PIECE WITH SALTWASH® STILL NEED TO BE SEALED OR HAVE A PROTECTIVE OR WAX LAYER APPLIED?
Saltwash® is only a base layer. If the topcoat paint you are using requires a sealing or wax layer, you must use that. What the paint's topcoat requires also determines whether you need a sealing or protective wax layer.
HOW MANY SQUARE METERS DOES ONE LARGE 1.2kg CAN OF SALTWASH® COVER? HOW MUCH DOES A SMALL 238G CAN COVER?
1200g large can = 6-7m2
238g small tin = 1.5-2m2
depending on the application method.
HOW LONG DOES SALTWASH® LAST MIXED WITH PAINT?
The Saltwash® paint mixture will keep for up to 2 weeks in a properly sealed container.
If your mixture has become too thick and dry, just add more paint to the mixture and stir it to your desired consistency.
DOES THE SALTWASH® LAYER NEED A TOPCOAT?
Yes, to achieve the desired Saltwash® look, you need to apply clean paint as a topcoat and then sand the Saltwash® base layers to reveal them.
WHAT SETS SALTWASH® APART FROM TYPICAL CHALK PAINT OR OTHER SPECIALTY PAINTS?
Saltwash® is used as a base layer to create texture paste or mass and an authentic weathered look, and it can be added to specialty paints such as the Frenchic range.
WHAT MAKES SALTWASH® DIFFERENT FROM JUST PAINT?
Thanks to Saltwash®'s chemical composition, the Saltwash® layer dries evenly from bottom to top and top to bottom.
This alone differs from other typical paints that dry only from the top down, causing them to run and level out, losing the desired layered effect.
WHAT IS SALTWASH® MADE OF?
A patent has been applied for the Saltwash® product. Its chemical composition includes an active ingredient which, when added to paint and applied to any surface, begins to dry all at once and gives the desired layered, aged look.
Saltwash contains no VOC compounds and is a lead-free product.
WHAT MAKES SALTWASH® SO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER TEXTURED PRODUCTS?
Saltwash® is a product pending patent application, and it is the first and only product on the market to ever present the patinated, sun-kissed finish and layering offered by Saltwash®. While companies may try to imitate the product, we are confident there is only one way to Saltwash®!
