Painting stairs – tips for a durable and beautiful result

Painting your stairs with Frenchic paints will quickly give your home a new look. Painting your stairs is easy, but it does take a little time and planning, especially if your stairs get a lot of daily use.

For painting wooden stairs, the Wall Paint series is suitable.

Preparing the stairs for painting

  1. Protect and prepare your workspace

    • Protect your environment carefully.

    • Remove obstacles such as hooks and nails, and tape off the boundaries with high-quality painter's tape.

    • Wash the stairs and railings thoroughly with Sugar Soap and let dry.

    • Lightly roughen shiny surfaces and remove dust.

  2. Painting phase

    • Apply the base coat with a roller, then finish the outlines with a brush.

    • Paint at least two coats, following the drying times on the paint can (usually 2 hours between coats).

  3. Finishing and protection

  • You can leave the beautiful wood surface visible and combine it with painted surfaces. The end result is a modern look.

  • Tape stylish stripes to the stairs. Colored stripes are especially suitable for old buildings and the stairs of front-line soldiers' houses.
